We decided this year to go hiking. We all got up and did our duties around the house and were on the road heading for Hocking Hills by ten o'clock (sorry, Dad, I couldn't make it out by 9:00). Driving was good, except for a few carsick kids.
Before we went hiking we enjoyed a picnic of burgers, dogs, macaroni salad and chips. I had also made three desserts: carrot cake, lemon bars and mini cheesecakes.
Our first stop was Old Man's Cave, which we haven't been to in years. It has changed since we were last there. It is very nice - they have bridges and steps and pathways. The natural beauty of the cave is awe inspiring.
After Old Man's Cave we went to Cantwell Cliffs. We have done this trail many times, but we still loved it. It was a bit rundown; I think all the money went to Old Man's Cave! Along the trail we saw what looked to be wreckage from a tornado or bad storm.
We wrapped things up by going to Conkle's Hollow. It is a natural preserve of a gorge. We went along the bottom of the gorge which is about a 1/2 mile hike. Within the gorge are some caves, a small waterfall and plenty of huge boulders. You can also do the rim trail of the gorge which is longer and somewhat dangerous! We skipped that this time!
All in all it was a great day spent with family enjoying the beauty of God's creation. May we all remember the Creator of all things and the Giver of all life!
